
KAMPALA — Gen Katumba Wamala has since admission to hospital after an attempted assassination spoken out on his health status—his children, majority of whom are abroad pray for him and his slain daughter Brenda Nantongo and their driver Haruna Kayondo.
Gen Katumba who spoke from hospital bed at Medipal International Hospital in Kampala in a one and half-minute voice clip released Tuesday afternoon by the family, has assured his children and the public that he will be fine.
“To all my children, I will be fine. I have survived, we have lost Brenda [Nantongo] but please come. Fear nothing. God has given me a second chance. Don’t worry I don’t have bad injuries. Only the arms. I love you guys. Please for mummy. Mummy is in a terrible terrible state. Please pray for her. Those who can come, please come and burry Brenda”.
Gen Katumba Wamala, a former army chief in was injured and his daughter and driver killed after gunmen shot at the car in which they were being driven on Tuesday.
General Katumba Wamala who is the current minister of transport, was attacked near his home in a suburb of Kampala.
Four attackers on motorcycles opened fire at the vehicle at least seven times, local television station NBS reported.
Footage from the scene showed Wamala in his bloodied clothes asking to be taken to the hospital.
“He [Wamala] sustained injuries in both shoulders,” lawmaker Chris Baryomunsi told NBS.
