KAMPALA – Most women had a lot of hopes that the Speakership seat would be filled by a female to fit gender balance, the executive and judiciary having been taken by males already.
To their disappointment, the seat was also taken up a male, Jacob Oulanyah who defeated his rival and former boss Rebecca Kadaga with the support of President Yoweri Museveni.
This created a lot of criticisms from the public, wondering if the government still respects the aspect of gender balance.
The appointing authority, however, seems to have consoled with these by giving ladies top seats in the pending approval cabinet.
This has seen former education minister Jessica Alupo being appointed Vice President and Robinah Nabbanja as Prime Minister.
Nabbanja will be deputized by former Speaker of Parliament, Kadaga as 1st Deputy Prime Minister and Lukia Nakadama as 3rd Deputy Prime Minister and Minister without Port-folio.
Some other women were appointed include Nakadama Monica Minister, Office of the President and former Government Chief Whip, Ruth Nankabirwa for Minister of Energy and Mineral Development.
All the appointees are pending Parliamentary approval before they resume offices.
