KAMPALA – The speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanya has pledged to contribute more than Shs100 million towards the Church House debt.
This was after the Anglican Archbishop Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu crying out to Ugandans to contribute towards the clearing of the Church House building loan.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, the Archbishop said that the Church is in crisis of Shs48b for the Kampala Road-based multi-billion building.
Kaziimba re-echoed his previous call during the martyr’s day celebrations in Namugongo on Thursday, saying that if at least 1 million Ugandans contribute 60,000 shillings, they will be able to raise Shs 60billion to save the church house.
Giving his speech, the just elected 11th Parliament Speaker, Oulanyah said that the amount the church is asking Ugandans to contribute is less than what the Ugandan martyrs endured when they were burnt to ashes, hence all Ugandans should contribute to this general course.
He said that for the next six months, he will contribute Shs100 million and will also contribute more next year.
On Tuesday, Kaziimba said that the church will now start a fundraising campaign on Sunday at the All Saints Cathedral., and urged Christian faithfuls and well wishers to contribute.
