KAMPALA – The new Secretary to the Treasury designate economist Ramathan Ggoobi has said he believes in economics that works and “hates accountability without results”.
In the aftermath of his Thursday night appointment to replace Mr. Keith Muhakanizi as new Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Ggoobi broke silence on his Twitter handle, thanking President Museveni for handing him the reigns at the helm of the Finance docket as Chief technocrat.
“To H.E the President, thank you for the trust in appointing me to serve in this noble office,” he said Friday, July 14, adding;
“To the people of Uganda, thank you for the support and love.”
President Museveni on Thursday announced the appointment of new Permanent Secretaries and named Mr. Ggoobi as replacement for Mr. Keith Muhakanizi as Secretary to the Treasury.
Mr. Muhakanizi was sent to the Office of the Prime Minister.
“By virtue of the Powers given to the President by Article 174 (2) of the 1995 Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, I hereby, appoint the following as Permanent Secretaries,” Museveni said.
Mr. Ggoobi, a lecturer at Makerere University Business School was recently reported to have been considered for appointment as Finance Minister to replace Mr. Matia Kasaija.
A day later, the final list was made public and the economist was not a minister, evoking quite funny reactions on social media.
The two men will now work together as Minister and PS.
