
KAMPALA – James Kakooza has won the NRM party election for representative in the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).
Kakooza who got 93 votes, beat former State Minister for Tourism Godfrey Kiwanda Ssuubi who got 85 votes whereas Mr Abbas Mutumba had 54 votes.
Others in the race were Kenneth Nsubuga Ssebagayunga, Nakato Kyabangi and Umar Lule Mawiya.
Kakooza was declared winner by NRM Electoral Commission chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi.
This was during the NRM Parliament Caucus meeting held on Friday to replace the late Mathias Kasamba as one of Uganda’s representative in the EALA.

The meeting chaired by President Yoweri Museveni also voted four members to the NRM Caucus executive including Herbert Kinobere as Vice chairperson, Lilian Aber as General Secretary, Nakut Faith as Treasurer and Brandon Kintu as Publicity Secretary.
For 20 years, Kakooza represented Kabura County in Parliament of Uganda. He also served as state minister for Primary Health Care.
Upon confirmation by the Parliament of Uganda, Kakooza will be joining eight EALA MPs in Arusha Tanzania to complete the last year remaining on their five-year term.
Kasamba, the former Kakuuto County Member of Parliament died late April, 2021 at Nakasero Hospital in Kampala.
Kasamba was serving as the Director of Mobilisation for the ruling National Resistance Movement.
In June 2020, President Museveni who is the party national chairman appointed him Director Mobilisation.
