KAMPALA —The spokesperson of the Criminal Investigations Department, Charles Twine has assured Ugandans that security agencies have intensified their efforts in tracking renowned blogger Fred Lumbuye Kajjubi whom they say was the prime orchestrator of the devastating news of the ‘death’ of president Museveni.
Speaking at security press briefing on Monday at Naguru Police headquarters, Twine said they are closely monitoring the social media conduct of Ugandans.
“We would like to request the public that when you receive information announcing someone’s death, don’t rush to share it because you may also be ignorantly charged in court. Some of these things are done as schemes by people to get asylum,” Twine said.
“If you announce some one dead yet you’re not his family or his doctor the country condemns you as immoral. People have made it a habit to announce people dead they even announced the President. We arrested some pipo they are going to be charged with offensive communication. We are some people we are looking for and we are confident we shall get; Lumbuye and his colleagues,” he added.
President Museveni last said security services should quickly investigate and follow up individuals who peddle false news on social media.
“We need to solve this issue.. it is not security but an idiotic problem..social media. Social media has been saying Museveni is dead. When I went to Bombo people were looking…. Because they had been told by social media that Museveni is dead. Security service needs to solve that problem. They need to check and locate quickly, the one who tells such as story and waste peoples time. They should go for you, locate where you are and come for you. If you are in Europe, we denounce you. Say go to hell! he said.
