
OBONGI – The Joint Security Task Teams of the Police and UPDF in North West Nile Region and Obongi district have announced the arrest of a member of the self-styled rebel group of the Uganda National Rescue Front II, that has been responsible for several armed robberies and violent attacks in Yumbe and Obongi district.
The arrested was identified as Bashir Surundu, a 21-year-old, resident of Ayago village, Okuyo Parish, in Obongi district.
“Upon interrogation, he admitted to being a rebel, who was searching for food at the River shore, to take to his other colleagues who included; Adinani Renda of Kulubi, Yumbe district, Akange Thuthu of Tikijure, Yumbe; Ngulu resident of Waka, Itula sub-county, in Obongi, Jamali of Tikijure Town Council and “Boy” of Tikijure as well. The suspect was handed over to the UPDF, at Kulukulu barracks for further interrogation,” said Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson in a statement.
He noted that their commanders on police wanted list include; ARIS Habibu and Yassin Ssadala Dinga.
Police commended the community at Parolinya landing site, for their level of vigilance, that led to the identification and arrest of the suspect.
On the other hand, Enanga revealed that they intercepted an ADF recruit in Kigezi and Bunagana identified as Ashiraf Ssempebwa, a 29 year old, farmer of Nakabiso village, Kavule Parish, Kiringente Sub-county in Mpigi district, together with his wife, Nansamba Fatuma, aged 21, and their two children, aged 3 years and 6 months, respectively, while trying to sneak into the DRC and joint the ADF rebel ranks.
