KAMPALA – Monday evening was a day to remember for the residents of Kawempe, a suburb of Kampala as a good number of them managed to win different prizes from Uganda Revenue Authority – URA under its campaign – Mpa E-receipt Yange.
Launched in June, the Mpa E-receipt Yange campaign is running under the Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoicing Solution, a solution that is intended to support value-added tax (VAT) registered taxpayers.
At the event, participants won different prizes including a fully paid six-day safari for two in Uganda, motorcycles, fridges, laptops, travel bags, and tabs among others.
Silman Gafesonga, Acting in charge, Kampala North Station told the press that this is the tenth event across the country and the first of its kind in Kampala.
“We have been to Mbarara, Lira, Hoima, and other districts and finally we are here in Kampala and we started with Kawempe. We are hoping to go to Nakawa, Rubaaga, Makindye and Kampala Central.”

“I want to appreciate the Kawempe taxpayers, we have managed to collect around 15000 e-receipts. It’s a sign that people have engaged in this,” he added.
With e-receipt, he noted that URA is partnering with final consumers because they are the people who bear the tax burden.
Mr. Gafesonga, revealed that since the introduction of e-receipts, the revenue collection has greatly improved.
He encouraged all the taxpayers to embrace e-receipts because they help to raise VAT.

During the launch, Commissioner General John R. Musinguzi said that it is intended to cultivate a culture of accountability and record keeping, noting that they are two important ingredients for any business to succeed and any economy to develop.
Mr. Musinguzi explained that the final consumer is not required to provide a tax identification number to get an e-receipt from the seller.
Participants can also download a “Mpa E-receipt Yange” app on the Play Store and Appstore, and register to participate.
