KAMPALA – The National Medical Stores (NMS) has said the fire incident reported at Entebbe airport occurred at one of their private warehouses they had rented for storing mosquito nets in Entebbe.
NMS public relations officer Sheilla Nduhukire said they are currently assessing the extent of the damage caused by the fire and are working closely with the relevant authorities to investigate the cause.
She said emergency fire services were promptly notified, and fire fighters extinguished the fire.
“NMS extends its deepest appreciation to the Uganda Police fire brigade and the Aerodrome Rescue & Fire Fighting Services (ARFFS) for their swift response and professionalism during this incident,” Nduhukire said.
“NMS has already activated its Business Continuity Plan to ensure uninterrupted supply of mosquito nets to Ugandans. Mosquito nets were comprehensively insured to minimize any unexpected loss,” she added.
The warehouse was being managed by DAS Handling Ltd, a ground handling service provider based at Entebbe International Airport.
Marc DeleuI, DAS Managing Director, in a statement said the fire incident occurred at one of their buildings outside the airport.
“Upon the occurrence of this incident the fire fighters were contacted and responded immediately. We would like to extend our appreciation to the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority, Uganda Police Fire Brigade and UPDAF for the quick response extended when we notified them. We are currently working with the relevant authorities to suppress the fire and investigations into the cause of this incident are underway,” he said.
