KAMPALA – Ugandans seeking cosmetic and reconstructive medical procedures abroad may soon find themselves saying goodbye to costly medical tourism, thanks to the establishment of local facilities.
Located at C-Care, IHK in Namuwongo, the Care Spa Aesthetics facility boasts state-of-the-art equipment and a team of highly trained specialists, led by renowned cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgeon Dr. William Lubega.
Speaking at the official launch of the facility, Dr. Lubega, Care Spa Aesthetics said the facility offers a wide range of procedures, including skin rejuvenation, weight loss, PRP therapy, bariatric surgery, hair transplants, and international-standard cosmetic procedures.
He emphasized that the facility prioritizes patient safety and well-being, utilizing cutting-edge medicine and technology to minimize potential complications.
Industry experts estimate that Ugandans spend millions annually on medical tourism, primarily for cosmetic procedures and other specialized treatments.
“Ugandans can access world-class care locally, eliminating the need for costly travel and accommodations,” Dr. Lubega said.
Dr. Lubega also debunked common misconceptions that plastic surgery and aesthetics are exclusively expensive. “We offer customized plans to meet individual goals and budgets, catering to diverse needs,” he explained.
Some procedures require a lead time of three weeks or a month, acknowledging that cosmetic surgery is a journey, not a quick fix. “Care Spa ensures continuity of care, addressing complications and ensuring a smooth healing process,” he said adding: “Unlike traveling abroad, our team is always available. Clients can contact me anytime, and I’ll respond promptly.
He said the facility also offers “mummy makeover” procedures, addressing post-pregnancy body changes to boost self-esteem. These procedures can include tummy tucks, liposuction, weight loss procedures, and non-surgical options like Ozempic medication.
He said that the facility tailors solutions to individual needs, conducting lab tests to ensure safety and monitoring side effects. Their approach combines surgical and non-surgical techniques, including personalized nutrition plans supported by their Nutritionism boards.
Dr. Miriam Mutero Musinga, General Manager of C-Care IHK said the hospital sought to integrate wellness and beauty into its comprehensive medical services to redefine healthcare standards in Uganda.
According to Dr. Musinga, C-Care IHK has forged a strategic partnership with Andalusia Hospital in Egypt, a renowned institution for medical and surgical specialties. Through this collaboration, Egyptian experts visit Uganda monthly to provide specialized services previously unavailable locally. Moreover, this partnership facilitates capacity building, enabling the Care Spa team to develop skills and expertise.
“Our goal is to become a regional hub for specialized healthcare, attracting patients from across East Africa,” Dr. Musinga noted.
To date, the facility boasts a 100% success rate for procedures performed.
Ms. Patricia Tino, Executive Director of Bella Zuri, emphasized the importance of integrating beauty and wellness during the launch.
“In a society that often separates aesthetics from wellness, we believe they go hand-in-hand,” Tino said. “Our collaboration focuses on enabling the community to access healthcare consultation and treatment by reducing consultation costs and increasing access to world-class healthcare.”
Tino noted that the partnership would empower individuals to prioritize wellness, leading to improved mental health, low-stress levels, and enhanced overall well-being.
“Bella Zuri aims to remind the community that beauty isn’t just skin-deep; it’s an integral part of holistic wellness,” Tino added.
