HOIMA – Turkish construction giants SUMMA are making rapid progress on Uganda’s second national stadium in Hoima City, with the project taking shape at an impressively furious pace. During a recent inspection, members of the team, including National Council of Sports (NCS) Assistant General Secretary Administration, Joseph Oluga, and Engineering Officer Nicholas Zirimenya, expressed their delight at the progress made so far.
SUMMA was tasked with completing the $129 million multi-sports complex within 18 months. However, based on the current pace of construction, it is likely that the project will be completed well ahead of schedule. The complex will feature a 20,000-seater stadium, a 2,000-seater indoor multi-sports arena, a training pitch, a semi-Olympic-sized swimming pool, and a 1,000-plus vehicle parking lot.
In addition to these facilities, outdoor courts for basketball, netball, and volleyball are also under construction and already taking shape. The stadium is being built in preparation for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which Uganda will co-host with Kenya and Tanzania. Hoima has been selected as Uganda’s second host city for the tournament, and the stadium is expected to play a key role in the event.
The rapid progress made on the project is a testament to the expertise and efficiency of SUMMA, as well as the effective supervision provided by the Ministry of Works and Transport. As the project nears completion, excitement is building in Hoima and across Uganda, with many looking forward to the opportunity to host international football matches and other sports events.
