KAMPALA – Tragedy struck at Shumuk Aluminium Ltd in Nakawa Division on January 30, 2025, when a security guard, Machugayi Emmanuel, fatally shot two colleagues, Kakyebezi Ashiraf, 21, and Owechi Stephen, before turning the gun on himself. Police confirmed the incident.
According to preliminary findings, Machugayi, attached to Ryayo Security Group Ltd, accessed a firearm from a colleague without provocation, leading to the devastating incident. The Jinja Road Police Division swiftly responded, deploying a team of officers to investigate the matter.
Three bodies were recovered and transported to Mulago KCCA Mortuary for postmortem examination. The investigating team also recovered two rifles and several cartridges. Eyewitness statements were recorded from the first responding security officers at the scene.
The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation, with further inquiries ongoing. “We urge the public to remain calm as investigations into the matter unfold,” said Luke Owoyesigire, Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Kampala Metropolitan Police.
