ENTEBBE – A Turkish Airlines flight, TK612, departed Entebbe International Airport bound for Istanbul on Sunday, January 26, 2025, but was forced to make an unexpected return to the airport due to safety precautions. The Airbus A330-300 aircraft, carrying 259 passengers and crew members, took off at approximately 07:14 hours but was unable to proceed to its final destination.
After circling Ugandan airspace for over three hours to reduce fuel to the required safe landing weight, the aircraft successfully landed back at Entebbe International Airport at 10:50 hours. The precautionary measures taken by the pilots were standard safety procedures in the aviation industry, ensuring the safety of all on board.
According to the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), all passengers and crew members were safely disembarked from the aircraft after the emergency landing. The UCAA praised the pilots and crew for their professionalism and adherence to safety protocols, which ensured a safe and successful return to Entebbe.
The incident did not result in any injuries or damage to the aircraft, and an investigation into the cause of the safety precaution is currently underway. Turkish Airlines has apologized for the inconvenience caused to passengers and is working to rebook them on alternative flights.
