LUWERO – The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has embarked on a four-day exercise to display and update its members’ register, which started on Wednesday, January 29th, and will run until Saturday, February 1st, 2025. The exercise, which will take place in every NRM branch across the country, aims to verify and update the membership register.
Rt. Hon. Rose Namayanja, the NRM Deputy Secretary General, rallied the party’s supporters in Greater Luwero to participate in the exercise. “Go and check if your names are in the National Electoral Commission voters’ register, and those who are not registered should register to be able to vote in the coming elections. Secondly, from tomorrow, the NRM will be displaying its membership register at the villages, go and verify your details,” Namayanja said.
Namayanja also encouraged those who missed registration in last year’s March update and students who were at school to register to vote for the NRM flag bearers during the upcoming primary elections. She thanked President Yoweri Museveni for improving the welfare of the people through the Parish Development Model (PDM) initiative.
“We put the PDM program in the manifesto in the last term because we have had a number of government programs like the Youth Livelihood Program (YLP), the Women Empowerment fund, OWC, NAADS, Boonabagagawale, but we realised that they were all not very effective because they were being managed from the district thus bring them to the parishes for easy access,” Namayanja explained.
“Since time immemorial, no government program has been as successful as the PDM because people are free to decide on how to utilise the money to their benefit,” Namayanja added.
However, Namayanja decried the corruption of the PDM committees, saying it was the major challenge facing the program. “Anybody found jeopardizing the initiative shall be dealt with in accordance with the law. You shouldn’t pay anybody money to be included in the PDM program,” Namayanja warned.
“No payment is required for anybody to benefit from the PDM program. You should receive your one million shillings on your phone without any deductions. If they refuse to give you the money then you report to your leaders and the Resident District Commissioners’ offices,” Namayanja clarified.
Ntulume Lwabye, the Luwero Resident District Commissioner, reiterated the commitment to deal with some PDM Committees that are giving beneficiaries less money. “We will not tolerate any corruption in the PDM program. We urge the beneficiaries to utilise the money and return it to the SACCOs for other people to borrow since it is a revolving fund,” Lwabye said.
