A devastating midnight crash on the Soroti-Mbale highway has left one person dead and another injured. The accident occurred at Awoja Bridge when a Toyota Hilux double cabin pickup collided head-on with an Isuzu bus belonging to Kakise Bus Company.
According to Regional Police Commander for East Kyoga, Damali Nachuha, the driver of the double cabin pickup, Dr. Odongo Jacob, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the oncoming bus. Dr. Odongo was pronounced dead at the scene, while the passenger in the co-driver’s seat sustained injuries.
“The body of the deceased has been taken to Soroti Mortuary, and the injured person was rushed to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital for treatment,” Commander Nachuha stated.
The wreckage of the vehicles has been towed to CPS Soroti, pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV).
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crash.
