KAMPALA – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has renewed Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Tom Magambo’s contract as Director of the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) for two more years.
This move comes after Magambo’s successful tenure, which began in January 2022, during which he led key investigations and implemented reforms to strengthen Uganda’s criminal justice system.
Magambo expressed his gratitude to President Museveni for the continued trust in his leadership. “Your Excellency, @KagutaMuseveni, I am deeply honoured and humbled by your decision to renew my contract as Director CID,” he stated .
He also acknowledged the guidance of Minister Kahinda Otafiire and the Inspector General of Police, reaffirming his commitment to strengthening CID operations and ensuring justice and security across the country ¹.
Under Magambo’s leadership, the CID has undergone significant transformations, including modernizing operations, tackling organized crime, and improving investigative efficiency. His contract renewal is seen as a strong endorsement of his leadership as the government continues efforts to support Uganda’s security and law enforcement institutions.
Magambo’s background in the Internal Security Organisation (ISO) and his experience in regional affairs, internal counterintelligence, and policy analysis have equipped him with the expertise to drive reforms in the CID. His renewal is expected to further bolster Uganda’s criminal justice system and ensure continuity in the CID’s efforts to combat crime and promote security.
