KAMPALA – In a brazen and alarming incident, Nyanzi Fred Ssentamu, the Head of Mobilisation for the National Unity Platform (NUP), has been abducted by heavily armed men. Eyewitnesses report that Ssentamu was taken away in a drone to an unknown destination after being apprehended at gunpoint from Kubbiri Roundabout.
The abduction has sent shockwaves through the opposition ranks, with many condemning the act as a blatant display of state-sponsored thuggery. Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, the leader of the NUP, has spoken out against the abduction, vowing that the party will not be intimidated.
“This is a clear escalation of the regime’s brutality, but we will not be cowed,” Bobi Wine stated. “We demand the immediate and unconditional release of our comrade Nyanzi Fred Ssentamu. The regime may think it can silence us through abduction and intimidation, but we will continue to stand strong and fight for the freedom and rights of our people.”
The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with many Ugandans taking to social media to condemn the abduction and demand Ssentamu’s release. The NUP has called for calm but vowed to continue its struggle for democracy and human rights in Uganda.
As the search for Ssentamu continues, the international community is being urged to take notice of the deteriorating human rights situation in Uganda and to hold the government accountable for its actions.
