KAMPALA – Uganda and Egypt have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties during high-level talks in Kampala.
The discussions, held at the Ugandan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, focused on enhancing cooperation in key sectors such as trade, investment, water, health, infrastructure, and political cooperation.
Egypt’s Ambassador to Uganda, Monzer Selim, highlighted the historical ties between the two nations, emphasizing the mutual respect and shared interests that have evolved over decades.
Egypt has been a steadfast partner to Uganda, providing valuable support in critical sectors such as energy, food security, and water management. The cooperation between the two countries has played a pivotal role in Uganda’s socio-economic development, with Egypt providing significant support in sectors crucial to Uganda’s growth.
One notable area of collaboration is Egypt’s support for infrastructure development in Uganda, including the construction of the Akii-Bua Stadium. This project exemplifies Egypt’s commitment to enhancing Uganda’s sporting infrastructure.
The consultations also focused on deepening trade and investment relations between Uganda and Egypt. Both sides acknowledged the untapped potential in expanding bilateral trade, particularly in sectors like agriculture, manufacturing, infrastructure, and water development projects.
In addition to economic cooperation, the discussions touched on enhancing people-to-people interactions through capacity building exchanges, technical training, and knowledge sharing in fields like medicine, agriculture, and energy security.
Both delegations discussed the broader regional context of how Uganda and Egypt can work together to address shared challenges facing Africa, including regional security and promoting peace and stability across the continent.
The bilateral political consultations between Uganda and Egypt have laid a solid foundation for continued collaboration in key areas of mutual interest, demonstrating a shared commitment to deepening bilateral ties and creating tangible opportunities for growth and development.
