KAMPALA – Uganda’s National Resistance Movement (NRM) and Kenya’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and deepening cooperation. This was during a Wednesday meeting between a high-level delegation from UDA, led by Secretary General Hon. Hassan Omar Hassan and NRM’s Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, in Kampala.
“NRM and UDA are looking forward to deepening bilateral relations and strategic cooperation for the development of the two East African regional Parties,” said Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong.
UDA’s Secretary General, Hon. Hassan Omar Hassan, praised NRM’s leadership and resilience, saying, “Uganda’s NRM is a good friend and partner of Kenya in various fields. We are committed to enhancing the relations in political, economic and social areas.”
The UDA delegation also showed interest in learning from NRM’s organizational structures. “We intend to build a similar institute in Kenya to enhance the ideological training of our UDA cadres to produce ideologically grounded leaders,” said Hon. Hassan Omar Hassan.
One of the key events during the visit will be the NRA/UPDF Tarehe sita celebrations in Kyotera district, which commemorate the birth of the people’s army and Uganda’s liberation. Senator Omar emphasized the importance of enhancing relations between the two countries in political, economic, and social areas.
The delegation also visited the National Leadership Institute (NALI) to learn about its operations and explore the possibility of establishing a similar institute in Kenya. According to Senator Omar, this would help enhance the ideological training of UDA cadres and produce more effective leaders.
Maj. (Rtd) Awich Pollar, NRM’s Director of External Affairs, noted that the two ruling parties share a common goal, saying, “The two ruling parties share experiences and best practices and are willing to learn from each other… the two political parties share similar missions of transforming the lives of the population and championing east Africa’s political federation.”
