KAMPALA, Uganda – A devastating road crash occurred last night, March 5, 2025, at Mayanja Valley along the Kampala-Bombo Road, resulting in the loss of five lives and injuring 21 others.
According to preliminary investigations, the driver of a Fuso Super Grande truck, registration number UBK 769A, lost control while navigating a slope at Mayanja Valley. The truck collided with nine other vehicles and a motorcycle, all traveling in the same direction.
The impact of the crash was severe, instantly killing five occupants in other vehicles and the motorcycle rider. Twenty-one passengers in Toyota Hiace vehicles were rushed to Mulago Hospital for treatment.
The bodies of the deceased were conveyed to Mulago City Mortuary, while the vehicles involved were towed to Kawempe Police Station for inspection.
“We urge all motorists to prioritize road safety by ensuring their vehicles are well-maintained, adhering to speed limits, and driving defensively to prevent such tragic incidents,” said SP Kananura Michael, Chief Liaison Officer and Public Relations Officer of the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety.
The police have commenced investigations into the crash.
