HOIMA – Hoima City Stadium, a state-of-the-art sports facility, is rapidly taking shape in western Uganda. The stadium, which is being constructed by Turkish firm SUMMA, is a key component of Uganda’s preparations to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with neighboring countries.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni recently inspected the construction site, expressing satisfaction with the progress made so far. The President was accompanied by the First Lady and Minister of Sports and Education, Maama Janet Museveni, as well as other senior government officials.

The stadium, which is expected to be completed in 2026, will have a seating capacity of 20,000. It will feature modern facilities, including a semi-Olympic-sized swimming pool, a training pitch, and outdoor courts for basketball, volleyball, and netball. The stadium will also have a parking facility with over 1,000 spaces.
The Hoima City Stadium project is not only expected to boost Uganda’s sports infrastructure but also to stimulate economic growth in the region. The stadium will create employment opportunities for locals, both during the construction phase and after its completion.
Maama Janet Museveni praised the progress made on the stadium, expressing her gratitude to President Museveni for his support. She noted that the stadium will provide a platform for Ugandan athletes to showcase their talents and compete with the best in Africa.
The Vice President, H.E Jessica Alupo, highlighted the importance of investing in sports infrastructure, noting that it will enhance Uganda’s international reputation and provide local athletes with better training facilities.
The Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, affirmed Uganda’s readiness to co-host AFCON 2027, describing the Hoima Stadium project as a game-changer for the region. She emphasized that the stadium will become a hub for youth development programs, helping to nurture talent and create employment opportunities.
SUMMA, the Turkish construction firm, has been praised for its efficiency and professionalism. The company’s project manager, Mr. Murat Altun, assured stakeholders that SUMMA is committed to delivering a world-class stadium within the agreed timeframe.
