KAMPALA – A breakthrough in the investigation into the death of Martha Ahumuza Murari has revealed shocking details about the events leading up to her tragic demise. Detectives have retrieved WhatsApp messages from the phones of the deceased and the prime suspect, Edward Mugabo, a cashier at Mezo Noir Bar in Kololo, Kampala.
According to the preliminary police investigation report, Ahumuza had initiated a meeting with Mugabo at the bar on the night of her death. The conversation, accessed by detectives, shows that Ahumuza had asked Mugabo whether he would be at Mezo Noir on Wednesday night, taking advantage of her mother’s absence, who was on a business trip in Dubai.
Surveillance footage allegedly shows Ahumuza entering an office within the bar alongside Mugabo, moments before he rushed out in distress, seeking help from his brother, Joseph Kalenzi. By the time Ahumuza collapsed, the bar had closed, and only four people remained on the premises.
A medical examination revealed that Ahumuza had been sexually assaulted before collapsing. She was taken to Kampala Hospital, where she was pronounced dead the following day. A post-mortem examination was conducted by police forensic pathologists, and samples of her internal organs were sent to the Government Analytical Laboratory (GAL) for testing.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed that two suspects, Mugabo and Kalenzi, are in custody. The detectives are preparing the file to submit to the Resident State Attorney for legal advice.
As the investigation unfolds, the police are urging anyone with information to come forward, ensuring that justice is served for Martha Ahumuza and her loved ones.
