KAMPALA – Finally, the Electoral Commission has gazetted the results of the Kawempe North by-election, declaring Hon. Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola as the winner. This milestone marks the beginning of a new chapter for Kawempe North and Uganda as a whole.
Nalukoola’s victory comes after a highly contested by-election, which saw him emerge as the top candidate with 17,764 votes, surpassing his closest rival, Faridah Nambi of the NRM, who garnered 8,593 votes.
Despite the excitement surrounding Nalukoola’s win, the process has not been without controversy. The NRM rejected the results, citing allegations of vote rigging and irregularities. President Yoweri Museveni also weighed in, issuing a statement highlighting concerns over electoral malpractices and vowing to investigate the matter.
Now that the results have been gazetted, the next step is for Nalukoola to take the oath of office. However, the delay in gazetting the results had raised concerns among opposition leaders, who questioned the Electoral Commission’s handling of the process.
With the gazetting of the results, the stage is set for Nalukoola’s swearing-in ceremony, which will officially mark the beginning of his tenure as the Member of Parliament for Kawempe North. As he prepares to take office, Nalukoola is expected to work tirelessly to serve the people of Kawempe North and contribute to the development of Uganda.
