KAMPALA – President Yoweri Museveni has confirmed the promotions of several generals, senior officers, and junior officers of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).
The promoted officers include Maj. Gen. Felix Kulayigye, the Director of Defence Public Information, Maj. Gen. Charles Byanyima, Maj. Gen. Deus Sande, and Maj. Gen. Daniel Kakono. Prior to their promotions, they held the rank of Brigadier General.
These promotions were initially made in an acting capacity by the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, and are in line with the army’s new establishment. This development is part of a broader effort to restructure and strengthen the UPDF.
In recent years, President Museveni has made several promotions within the UPDF. In 2023, he promoted a total of 50 UPDF officers, including five colonels who were promoted to the rank of brigadier general. Similarly, in 2022, he promoted 76 UPDF officers to different ranks, including the Deputy Military Intelligence chief, Col Abdul Rugumayo, who was promoted to the rank of brigadier general.
