Hoima, Uganda – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has pledged government support to Mr. David Irumba, a thriving agribusiness entrepreneur based in Hoima City. During a visit to Mr. Irumba’s farm on Tuesday, the President commended his dedication to wealth creation, attributing his success to the government’s message of economic empowerment.
Mr. Irumba’s remarkable journey began in 2018 with three acres of coffee, which has since expanded into poultry and goat farming. Today, he employs 50 workers and has made significant financial strides. His poultry farm boasts 50,000 birds, producing 500 trays of eggs daily, earning him UGX 150 million per month. With projected annual revenue of UGX 1 billion within five months, Mr. Irumba’s coffee enterprise also generates an average of UGX 1.6 million per month.
Expressing gratitude to the President for visiting his farm, Mr. Irumba acknowledged the crucial role of the Uganda Development Bank (UBD) in financing his startup through a loan. He credited government initiatives for his growth, highlighting access to electricity and improved road infrastructure as key enablers of his business.
As the proprietor of Keywood Group Limited, Mr. Irumba challenged fellow Ugandans to seize opportunities created by the government, particularly socioeconomic funds like the Parish Development Model (PDM). He also requested additional support, including an egg-breaking machine, a complete feed mixer, and a delivery truck for egg distribution.
In response, President Museveni contributed a feed mixer worth UGX 80 million and an egg-breaking machine worth UGX 120 million, as well as a truck to transport eggs to the market. The President assured Mr. Irumba that the Ministry of Agriculture would address the farm’s water needs to facilitate poultry farming and zero-grazing for cattle.
Vice President Jessica Alupo praised President Museveni’s visionary leadership in transforming Uganda into a money-driven economy. Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja commended the government’s commitment to infrastructure development, including improved road networks and the ongoing construction of Hoima International Airport.
Mr. Irumba aims to turn his farm into a model demonstration farm to inspire and train other farmers in the region. With the government’s support, he is poised to continue his remarkable journey, contributing to Uganda’s economic growth and development.
