KAGADI, Uganda – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has called upon farmers in Bunyoro to embrace modern farming methods, including irrigation, to boost agricultural productivity and improve their livelihoods.
Speaking at a public rally in Kahunde Playground, Isunga sub-county, Kagadi district, President Museveni emphasized the importance of adopting innovative techniques to enhance crop yields and reduce dependence on rainfall.
“We must move away from traditional farming practices and adopt modern methods that will enable us to produce more and earn better incomes,” President Museveni said.
“Irrigation, for example, can significantly increase crop yields and reduce the risks associated with rain-fed agriculture.”
The President also highlighted the success of the four-acre model, which has been implemented in various parts of the country. The model involves allocating one acre for cash crops, one for food crops, another for fruits, and the last for housing or livestock.
“I have seen firsthand the impact of this model on farmers’ lives,” President Museveni said. “It has enabled them to earn substantial profits and improve their livelihoods. I encourage all farmers in Bunyoro to adopt this model and make the most of their land.”
In addition to promoting modern farming techniques, President Museveni also reiterated the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure, including roads, water supply, and electricity distribution. He also emphasized the importance of protecting land rights and preventing illegal land evictions.
The President’s call to action was welcomed by farmers and local leaders in attendance, who pledged to work together to adopt modern farming techniques and improve agricultural productivity in the region.
“We are grateful for the President’s guidance and support,” said Robert Mugabe, a local farmer. “We are committed to adopting modern farming techniques and making the most of our land to improve our livelihoods.”
The event was part of the President’s performance assessment tour of Bunyoro sub-region, which aimed to evaluate the progress of various government programs and projects in the area.
