Kawempe North MP-elect, Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola, is scheduled to be sworn in tomorrow, following the Electoral Commission’s gazetting of his victory yesterday.
Speaker of Parliament Anita Among confirmed the development through her X handle, stating that she has received official communication from the Electoral Commission along with a copy of the gazetted results.
The soft spoken Nalukoola expressed his excitement about the news, saying, “If it is true, that is good news. I will make it tomorrow for the long-awaited day to swear in as a people’s choice for the people of Kawempe North.”
The Electoral Commission’s gazette confirmed Nalukoola’s victory, although it showed discrepancies in the vote count, with NRM’s Faridah Nambi receiving 9,058 votes, contrary to the initial 8,593 votes declared.
NUP Secretary-General David Lewis Rubongoya questioned the delay in gazetting Nalukoola’s victory, stating that it was a deliberate attempt to overturn his win.
Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Joel Ssenyonyi welcomed the development, saying, “The pressure from all corners has paid off. We’re now awaiting the swearing-in of our colleague so he can serve Kawempe North and Uganda at large”.
