Kampala (Uganda) – The iKon Awards Executive Committee has honoured nominees for the 2025 edition with certificates of recognition, aiming to promote excellence in Uganda’s film industry.
The recognition ceremony, held at Divine Resort Beach in Mukono on March 15, brought together nominees, media personalities, musicians, film producers, and industry stakeholders.
“I think it’s a great initiative to acknowledge nominees,” said media personality Brian Mulondo. “It’s a way of saying, ‘We see you, we appreciate you, and we value what you do’.”
Actress and musician Helen Lukoma and actor Mathew Nabwiso also praised the move, highlighting its impact on the industry.
“You all make significant sacrifices to ensure Ugandans are entertained, and these sacrifices deserve to be recognized by all stakeholders,” said iKon Awards Founder Humphrey Nabimanya.
Nabimanya also urged media houses to support local content. “Media houses should invest in local content. Many of us filmmakers face challenges in getting our content aired, only for it to be shown without any real value placed on it. We demand that media houses purchase our content.”
Usama Mukwaya, producer of the iKon Awards, noted that some filmmakers are disqualified due to subpar production standards. “Some filmmakers are disqualified because they don’t meet basic standards, such as including subtitles on their films, which is crucial for reaching an international audience.”
The 2025 iKon Awards ceremony is scheduled for March 29 at the Kampala Serena Hotel, celebrating African culture with a “Back to the Roots” dress code theme.

This year’s awards have introduced four new categories and expanded nominee slots in each of the 22 competitive categories to five.
