Frank Lubinga, a 55-year-old man, has been committed to the High Court for trial on charges of aggravated robbery.
This comes after the Director of Public Prosecutions found sufficient evidence to prosecute him for allegedly robbing a 23-year-old Swedish national, Bergevald John Axel, on May 10, 2024.
The Buganda Road Chief Magistrate Ronald Kayiizi has commited Lubinga to high court at the next convenient court session.
According to court documents, the victim and his colleague, Jacob Kempa, were attacked by an individual armed with a metal bar while walking along Yusuf Lule road in Kampala. The assailant stole the victim’s bag, containing valuable items, and threatened to assault them when they tried to pursue him.
A boda-boda rider, familiar with Lubinga, witnessed the incident and identified him as the assailant. The victim reported the robbery to police, leading to Lubinga’s arrest. The crime scene was visited, and a sketch map was drawn.
The indictment states that the victim sustained injuries during the robbery, classified as grievous harm. The accused person was medically examined and found to be an adult of sound mind. These findings will be presented as evidence during the trial.
