KAMPALA – Chaos erupted in Komamboga as police dispersed supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP) ahead of Elias Nalukoola Luyimbazi’s final rally for the Kawempe North MP by-election. The incident left one man with a broken leg, sparking tensions in the area.
The violence occurred as President Yoweri Museveni, who is also the NRM National Chairman, prepared to campaign for the NRM flag bearer, Faridah Nambi, at Kawempe Mbogo Muslim Primary School Grounds. Museveni was set to address voters and canvass support for Nambi ahead of this week’s by-election.
The Kawempe North constituency has been a focal point of political attention since the death of former MP Muhammad Ssegirinya in January. The by-election has sparked intense competition between the NUP and NRM, with both parties vying for control of the constituency.
As the campaign season reaches its climax, concerns about violence and intimidation have grown. Today’s incident in Komamboga has only added to these worries, with many fearing that the situation could escalate further in the coming days.
