Kampala, Uganda – The team of Nepalese Consular General in Uganda Sudhir Ruparelia has dismissed an audio recording circulating online as a “malicious attempt to deceive and manipulate the public.”
Accordingly, the recording, which purportedly features Dr. Ruparelia’s voice, has been cloned using advanced technology – the generative AI voice cloning.
“It’s a deep fake,” Dr. Sudhir says.
“Let the public beware and exercise caution and not to rely on unverified sources of information,” Sudhir, also a prominent Ugandan businessman and entrepreneur, said.
This incident highlights the growing concern about voice cloning and deepfake technology, which can be used to create convincing but fake audio and video recordings.
As technology advances, it is becoming increasingly challenging to distinguish between genuine and cloned recordings.
Media experts have been advising users to be cautious when consuming online content and to verify information through reputable sources before accepting it as true.
