
KATWE: Police in Katwe has arrested 35-year-old Shaban Musasizi for allegedly neglecting his child.
He is accused of locking up and starving his 8-year-old child for months due to marital misunderstanding with its mother. Musasizi will face charges of child neglect.
He was arrested today morning following concerns from the neighbors.
The victim has been handed over to the Makindye Probation Officer for emergency Assistance and consequent resettlement.
The suspect is currently detained at Katwe Police Station.
A 2015 study carried out by the African Network for the Prevention and Protection against Child Abuse and Neglect [ANPPCAN] in the central districts of Kampala, viagra Mukono and Wakiso put the prevalence of child abuse in the area to a staggering 74.7%.
The study findings showed that boys are more vulnerable to abuse with the rate prevailing at 81.2% whereas that of girls stood at 68.3%.The report also pointed out that the main perpetuators of the abuses are the parents at 41%, neighbours 19% and Step parents among others which he said is an indicator that most of these atrocities on the children are committed at home.

According to police, crimes committed against women and children between 2010 and 2016 indicate an increase in cases of women killed as a result of domestic violence, women trafficking, defilement, rape, child kidnap, child trafficking, child torture, incest, and child desertion among others.
