KAMPALA – Police have on Tuesday arrested socialite Judith Heard over leaking her nude pictures as government intensifies crackdown on pornography.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, Heard, whose video of her having sex with an unidentified man leaked in May, was arrested after she refused to honour police summons issued over three weeks ago.
Mr Owoyesigyire said the socialite is being detained at Kampala Central Police Station where she is interrogated.
A senior CID at the CPS, who requested for anonymity said Heard recorded a statement, blaming her former boyfriend for leaking the nude pictures.
Mr Owoyesigyire said Heard will appear in court once investigations are complete.
The government, through the pornography control committee has in recent months stepped up efforts to control the sharing of pornography in the country.
Recently, Lillian Rukundo, a student of Mass Communication at Uganda Christian University (UCU) was charged and remanded to Luzira prison after she pleaded guilty to 10 counts of producing a provocative sex video.
The committee is working with the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) and the National Information Technology Authority Uganda (NITA) to block websites featuring pornographic content.
Early last month, police issued an arrest warrant to other socialites such as Don Zella and Jack Pemba over leaking of nude photos. Over the years, sex videos of Ugandan celebrities in the nude have been published. Some of them are Judith Heard, Desire Luzinda, Zari, Bad Black, Patience Namara and Bettina Tumuhaise, among others.
