LAMWO – A two-year old baby from Lubiri village Pabura parish Madi Opei sub-county Lamwo district was murdered.
Alice Pinyoloya who went missing for over two days is suspected to have been killed in acts of child sacrifice.
Pinyoloya went missing on Sunday September 23, according to police.
Police mounted a search for the baby and the following day discovered her mutilated body at Luker stream near Madi Opei trading centre.
Jimmy Patrick Okema Aswa river regional police spokesman, confirmed the incident and said the murderers cut the baby’s mouth and removed her tongue, which may mean it was a ritual murder.
Okema said one suspect has been arrested and detained under SD 06/23/09/208 at Lamwo police station as the search for more suspects continues.
In a related incident, Thomas Luyira, 30, resident of Lutuku village Lawiyeoduny parish Madi Opei Sub-County in Lamwo district was kidnapped from his garden at about 10:00am on Sunday.
In a joint search by police and other security agencies, Luyira was discovered lying unconscious in the bush after he was badly beaten.
The victim is reported to be getting treatment at Madi Opei health centre III.
Aswa river region police suspect that four people still at large could have been involved in Luyira’s kidnap in association with a land dispute between the Lutuku and Opii clans.
The murder brings the numbers of murdered people to 57 in less than four months.
