
NAKASONGOLA – Health workers attached to Nakasongola Health Center IV were arrested Thursday 14 by the police and officers from the State House Health Monitoring Unit on allegations of stealing Hepatitis B Vaccines.
Dr Jackson Ojera the Director of State House Health Monitoring Unit confirmed the arrest but declined to give details saying it may compromise investigations.
According to sources, the suspects were found in possession of Hepatitis B Vaccines worth Shs20 million in Luweero town council which they were planning to sell to private clinics.
The Luweero Resident District Commissioner, Ms Phoebe Namulindwa says that the suspects were arrested after a tip-off by residents.
“They are currently being detained at Luweero Central Police Station,” she said.
She added that the investigations are on-going to arrest other people who were buying the drugs.
It should be remembered that in August last year, Nakasongola district rolled out a free screening and vaccination campaign against Hepatitis B.
The vaccines were got from Ministry of health and were distributed to Health Center IVs and III’s.
