
KISORO – Kisoro Police has arrested one of their own officers who is attached to the Counter Terrorism Police for the alleged murder of a 24-year suspected marijuana dealer.
Thirty-year-old Anacyed Byaruhanga a police officer attached to Buhoma Police Post is alleged to have shot dead Abdul Hakim Tukamushaba, a resident of Rushekye village in Bukimbiri Sub-County, Kisoro District.
According to Police, Tukamushaba was shot dead by Byaruhanga on Wednesday, February 6 at around 11:30 am, while he was on guard duty at Ichumbi Gorrilla Lodge in Rubuguri Town Council.
The deceased is said to have accessed the lodge premises wielding a machete.
Byaruhanga says he confronted him but he raised the machete to cut him and that the machete caught the tip of the gun.
According to area police spokesman Elly Maate, the deceased tried to run away and that is when Byaruhanga shot him dead.
“Police visited the scene and recovered marijuana from the deceased and the officer’s gun, an AK47 with 26 bullets,” Maate said.
The body was taken to Kisoro Hospital for postmortem while the suspect is being detained at Kisoro Police Station.
