
KAMPALA – Police in Kampala has on Wednesday arrested a man for allegedly attacking and stealing from a Chinese national on Bombo Road.
Ashirafu Kivumbi and his colleagues are said to have attacked Yuquang Wei, broke his arm and injured his nose before robbing his property and money.
Police say Kivumbi was identified by an officer, who responded to the attack, but he was able to evade arrest.
According to police, on June 2, 2019, CCTV cameras had captured the suspect snatching a mobile phone from Fred Katsinzi while he was driving a vehicle near Bible House on Bombo Road.
“With this tangible evidence, our officers used the footage to trace for his whereabouts and later arrested him at his mother’s residence yesterday [Tuesday],” said the police in a statement.
Police added that Mr. Kivumbi is renowned phone snatcher on Bombo Road, Gadaffi Road, Kiseeka and Old Kampala.

“After arrest, we dug-out his history and found out that he had several criminal cases on which he was arrested and convicted.”
“Today [Wednesday], he led us to one Baker alias Buuba (in yellow T-shirt) whom he claims buys stolen mobile phones,” said the police.
Police revealed that both suspects face charges of theft, aggravated robbery and being in possession of the stolen property. They are currently detained at Wandegeya Police Station.
