KAMPALA– Robert Asiimwe, a student at Kyambogo University has on Thursday 4 been arrested by police for allegedly killing his former teacher.
The deceased has been identified as, Emmanuel Mugarura a former teacher to Asiimwe at St Charles Lwanga School in Bushenyi district.
According to police, Asiimwe after killing his teacher, he wrapped the body in a polythene bag.
Mr. Asiimwe’s arrest followed a driver of a car whom he had hired to collect garbage and take it to the dumping site.
The driver became suspicious of the package that he was directed to take and in the process he found out that the garbage contained a dead body. He, therefore, tipped the police.
Mr. Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson said that Asiimwe revealed that the deceased had visited him two days earlier but suddenly died in his room.
However, according to crime officers and first responders, Mugarura’s body had bruises which indicated that he could have been a victim of strangulation.
Mr. Onyango added that police is investigating into the matter to establish what could have happened before and during Mugarura’s stay at Asiimwe’s home.
For the past years, students have been involved or arrested over murder related crimes. In 2016, Henry Kyagulanyi also a student from Kyambogo was arrested by Flying Squad Unit (FSU) on allegations of killing a 9-year-old who was a pupil of Lungujja Modern primary school.
