
KABALE – Police in Kabale have arrested Obadia Twinomuhwezi, a news anchor at Peak FM in Kabale and Susan Katushabe his spouse on allegations of faking own kidnap.
Twinomuhwezi 25 and Katushabe 22 are both residents of Rwakaraba B cell in Northern division in Kabale Municipality.
The Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson Elly Maate says that Katushabe was allegedly kidnapped in the evening of July 26, 2019, at around 8:00 pm by unknown assailants in a black saloon car in Kabale town who later started demanding for a ransom of 4.5 million shillings from her parents.
Mr Maate says that the parents reported the matter to Rukiga police station vide SD reference 06/27/07/19 and police from Rukiga cooperated with that of Kabale and started tracking
Katushabe’s phone, which he said she was personally using in negotiations, claiming that she was doing it on the kidnappers’ orders.
“Katushabe’s parents became suspicious about the kidnap of their daughter and rushed to police for help where after verification was discovered that its Katushabe who was negotiating the ransom.” Mr Maate noted.
He says that it was until Sunday morning 28/07/2019 at around 11:00 am when police discovered that she was in Twinomuhwezi’s house who is her boyfriend in Rwakaraba B cell in Northern division Kabale Municipality.
“The two are currently detained at Kabale Central Police Station as investigations in the matter continue to establish the truth of the matter,” Maate confirmed.
