RUBANDA – Police in Rubanda district is holding three people for allegedly murdering their own biological brother over land.
The suspects include; Frank Ahereza, Medard Tuweheyo and Phoebe Tumuheirwe, who are all residents of Bugandaru village, Kagunga parish Bufundi Sub County in Rubanda district.
The trio was arrested on Monday morning of September 16, 2019 following the death of a 24-year-old Kenneth Asiimwe.
The Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson Elly Maate says that the suspects attacked Asiimwe and hacked him to death on Sunday night of September 15, when he was in his home in Bugandaru village, Kagunga parish Bufundi Sub County in Rubanda district.
According to Mr. Maate, the suspects killed Asiimwe after he refused them to sell part of their family land.
Mr. Maate added that, “after killing Asiimwe, the suspects cleaned the deceased’s body and placed it in his bed claiming that he died a natural death”.
John Tumwine one of the relatives in an interview with our reporter said that they became doubtful following continued bleeding which forced them to call police.
“We became suspicious and couldn’t leave the issue uncleared by police after Asiimwe had continuous bleeding,” he said.
Mr. Maate says that police found that the deceased was assaulted since he had multiple injuries on his body and according to the post-mortem report, he died of excessive bleeding.
“Our medical team visited the scene of crime, postmortem done and confirmed that Asiimwe was killed not a natural death like his alleged murders alleges,” Mr. Maate added.
The suspects are currently being detained at Rubanda Police Station as investigations into the matter continue.
