KAKUMIRO – Police in Kakumiro District are holding a man for allegedly brutally killing a woman before eating some of her body parts.
The suspect, a resident of Kyedikyo B-Village, Kyangota parish in Katikara Sub County allegedly ambushed Oliver Kyalimpa, 25, as she was going to fetch water on Saturday.
It is said that the suspect dragged the deceased to his home where he allegedly slaughtered her to death and later hid some of the deceased’s body parts in a covered trench in his compound.
Mr. Charles Twikyirize, the deceased’s husband after waiting for his wife for a long time, he kicked off a search with residents until they landed on the deceased’s remains in the trench in which the suspect was also hiding.
“I reached at home at around 12 pm and found that my wife had gone to fetch water. I decided to go and help her from the well but I did not find her there. I alerted residents and we started searching for her till late in the night. We stormed the suspect’s home where we found a deep covered trench and on digging it up, we found body pieces of my wife,” Twikyirize narrated.
One of the residents, Mr. James Mugisha, said angry residents stormed the suspect’s home and dug out the trench in which they found the suspect hiding with the deceased’s body parts.
Police also joined the residents in the operation. Some of the deceased’s parts were found in a container. Other organs like the heart and liver had been removed. Angry residents destroyed the suspect’s property including the house and cut down his banana plantation.
The area LCI Chairman, Mr. Robert Nsasira, said police was forced to fire live bullets to scare away angry residents who wanted to lynch the suspect. The suspect was whisked to Katikara police post.
“We were shocked after finding the suspect hiding in the trench with the deceased’s body parts. We highly suspect that he ate some of them because they are missing. Police was forced to fire shots in the air because residents wanted to lynch the suspect,” Nsasira said.
When contacted, the Kakumiro District Police Commander, Mr. Najjib Waiswa confirmed the incident adding that investigations into the matter are ongoing
