
KOTIDO – Police in Kotido district in Karamoja sub-region have arrested Mr. Jackson Matsanga, the headteacher of Kotido senior secondary school in Kotido district Karamoja region for allegedly theft and embezzlement.
He was arrested at his office on Wednesday 20 after audit report by the district public accounts committee pinned him for misappropriating money meant for school developments.
According to the report by PAC seen by this website, the school administration paid UGX75M to an unknown source and there was no requisition made on the spent money.
The report indicated UGX46M that the school received from the Uganda Communication Commission (UCC) to support ITC and computer studies was embezzled.
The money the report shows mismanaged was UGX27M paid by students for mocks and it was consumed at the source without any document.
Peter Lokol one of the members of Kotido district public accounts committee who participated in the auditing of the school said they are an attempt to inquire from the headteacher on how the school spent the money but failed due to arrogance of the Matsanga.
Mr. Jimton Aguta, the district Police Commander Kotido confirmed the arrest of Matsanga, saying police are investigating the issue.
“Yes we have him in our custody and we are investigating the case ones we are done, he be produced before court to answer charges of embezzlement and theft.
