MPIGI – Police have arrested Wamala Assadu, the director of Wamala Secondary School in Mpigi District, who has been on the run for allegedly defiling students.
Officers from Nsangi Police station arrested Wamala from his father’s home in Nakaseke district where he has been hiding.
President Museveni last week called for an extensive investigation after the school director was released on bail by the Mpigi Magistrate Maureen Mukayo. Wamala had been charged with indecent assault and not defilement.
This came after several female students came out alleging that he had defiled them several times. The students said Mr Wamala would visit the girls’ dormitory and randomly pick girls to take to his house, which is near the school. They said he would sometime sneak them out of school for sexual orgies in Kampala.
Wamala is said to have repeatedly sexually abused the girls in classes and staffroom among other places. On Tuesday, Mr Museveni protested the manner in which Wamala was released by the Mpigi Magistrate and ordered the State House team to follow up on the matter. A team from State House recorded statements from a number of students before ordering for the re-arrest of the school director.
Wamala will be charged and tried in court, according to police.
In an interview with New Vision last week, a 16-year-old student alleged that Wamala called her and another girl from the girls’ dormitory to his house on November 3 and forced her into sex.
“He slept with me as my friend watched, but I later learnt he had slept with her too,” the victim is quoted by New Vision as saying.
