
KAMPALA – Police in Kajjansi, Wakiso District on Wednesday, December 04, 2019, arrested two suspects for allegedly murdering a herdsman and stealing 24 head of cattle.
Police was forced to act after Simon Ssekayi, 60, a resident of Kitovu in Ssisa Sub-county, Wakiso District, on Tuesday, December 3, reported that his cattle and four sheep, all valued at Shs36 million had been stolen by unknown persons, and that also his herdsman only identified as Kamugisha had gone missing.
According to police, they alerted all police stations in Kampala Metropolitan area. Eventually, Police in Kikajjo intercepted the suspects with the cattle and sheep.
On interrogation, police said the suspects revealed to have stolen the animals from Kitovu and that they had killed the herdsman. The suspects are said to have led police to the scene where they murdered Kamugisha and the body was recovered. Scene examined and body taken to City mortuary for postmortem.
The two suspects are Kamu Nanjo and Odema Isaac, they are currently detained at Kajjansi Police. They will be charged with murder and stealing cattle.
The incident comes after Police announced that have beefed up security in all parts of the country ahead of the festive season. According to Police spokesman Fred Enanga, the Inspector General of Police has instructed all territorial commanders to step high visibility patrols across their jurisdictions and further deploy task teams, to monitor all areas targeted for opportunistic crimes especially crowded places and shopping areas.
“This is because our priority is to ensure everyone feels safe and enjoy their holiday and festive shopping experience. We are therefore, enhancing our security presence early enough, to reassure the public and also act as a deterrent to anyone considering committing a crime or disrupting the prevailing peace and safety,” Mr Enanga said in a statement issued on Tuesday.
