KAMPALA – First Lady and Education minister Janet Kataha Museveni has announced dates for selection of students entering secondary education this year.
While releasing PLE results for the year 2018 on Thursday in Kampala, Mrs Museveni said selection for entry into Senior One is set for January 24th and 25th next week.
The minister further disclosed that the admitted S.1 students are also scheduled to start school on February 18.
Janet Museveni commended UNEB for the early release of the PLE results because it not only enables the students to start with others but also enables the Ministry to run other activities.
Ms Museveni said that the continuous poor performance of children most especially from the rural areas is the problem of the lack of meals in their schools.
“I have emphasized the problem of lack of meals because of the impact this has on a child’s ability to concentrate and learn effectively. We are undertaking targeted interventions in some of these districts to try and improve learning conditions and outcomes,” Ms Museveni said.
She also expressed worry on why a large number of candidates cannot adequately handle questions with practical applications attributing asserting that the teachers should change the method they use when teaching pupils as compared to the theoretical one.
Ms Museveni further assured dealing with the Examination malpractice which is perpetrated by some teachers and head teachers.
“On our part, the Ministry will vigorously pursue all reported cases ofHeadteacherss or teachers who are responsible for all forms of fraud associated with examinations, including non-registration of eligible candidates or other forms of malpractice. These will be subjected to the disciplinary process by the Ministry’sRewards and Sanctions Committee,” She added.
