
KYAMBOGO – Kyambogo University Council has approved a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Design and Visual Culture.
This follows a report from the Senate’s 3rd Session of the 61st meeting held in April 2018, which received and considered the programme from Faculty of Vocational Studies, Department of Art and Industrial Design.
The Doctorate programme is an exploration of the interactions among eye, mind and image. Also it includes scientific, philosophical and practical approaches to understanding man and his surroundings.
Kyambogo University Council Chairman Prof. John Okedi said that the programme provides an opportunity for students to specialize in either Visual Studies or Visual Anthropology.
He noted that the PhD in visual culture is a minimum of three years and a maximum of four years’ programme where the first year shall be dedicated to coursework and proposal writing.
The programme will cost candidates from East African States UGX 5,000,000m per semester and 8,000,000/= for other nationals.
Others charges will include functional fees.
The programme will admit individuals who have Masters Degrees in Design and Industrial Design, Art history, Fine Art, Performing arts, Architecture, Material Culture and Curatorship.
Others include Museology, History, Archaeology, Anthropology, and Public health.
It is anchored on the Global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4, 8,9,11 & 15, African Union Agenda 2063, NDP (II) and Kyambogo Vision and Mission.
It will be privately funded from the donor and private sponsorship and it will run with effect from the Academic Year 2019/2020.
