KAMPALA — Bar Course students at the Law Development Centre (LDC) who were unable to graduate this academic year have petitioned the Uganda Law Council— requesting for a complete and comprehensive audit of all exam results.
The LDC, the only institution in Uganda that offers the Bar Course leading to the award of the post-graduate Diploma in Legal Practice has been a subject of controversy —with students accusing the Centre of manufacturing the a graduation list, and failing 90. 1% of the students in the process.
In their petition to aw Council and the National Council for Higher Education, students also want a thorough investigation into the marking, tallying and compilation of all student results for the Academic Year 2019/2020.
“In light of the foregoing, we seek your assistance in obtaining the following prayers; that a comprehensive audit of all students results should be carried out by the Law Council in the exercise of its mandate as the regulator of the conduct of legal education in Uganda,” the students wrote, asking regulatory players to reign in on LDC for what they say is a vile plot fail them.
The LDC released results, a list of students who had passed on 2nd of June 2021, at 8pm. The list simply indicated who had passed and who had failed. According to available information, it then promised to release the results of students’ exams by 5th of June 2021 but those results were not forthcoming.
LDC authorities organized a zoom call on Monday 7th June 2021 where they said results would be available for all on the 9th June 2021. This did not happen, according to sources.
LDC continued and graduated students on the 11th June 2021 without giving them marks.
Those who graduated say the don’t know what they scored in any of the subjects LDC says they passed.
Still, other students who did not graduate also don’t know what they scored in the subjects LDC says they failed.
In one of the decuments seen by this website, LDC communicated that they would send the results individually to all students in a two-week window begin on the 15th June 2021. This means LDC committed to send results 5 days after graduation of students.
