KAMPALA – Uganda’s Ministry of Education and Sports released the 2024 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) results on Tuesday, February 11, 2025. Minister Janet Museveni announced the results, highlighting the dedication and hard work that went into preparing them earlier than expected.
“I released the UCE examination results on the 15th of February, 2024. This time we are ready to release today on the 11th of February, 2025,” Minister Museveni said. “That we are a few days earlier must have meant a lot of dedication and hard work. I say again, thank you. Thank you, UNEB, so much.”
This year’s UCE exams were significant, as they marked the first assessment under the new lower secondary curriculum, which was rolled out in 2020. Despite initial challenges, including disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the ministry remained committed to implementing the new curriculum.
Minister Museveni noted that the new curriculum was designed to develop competencies in all areas of learning. “Learners who have gone through this curriculum have the ability to self-learn,” she said. “They will contribute greatly to the realization of our national vision, which focuses on transformation from peasantry to modern and prosperous Uganda.”
Dan Odong, Executive Director of the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB), presented the results to Minister Museveni. “Honourable Minister of Education and Sports, Uganda National Examination Board presents to you the results of the 2024 Uganda Certificate of Education Transition Examination,” Odong said.
Odong reported that a total of 10,141 candidates registered for the exams, with 43.1% being males and 52.9% females. He also noted that 96.1% of registered candidates sat for the examination.
The results showed that 0.8% of candidates passed in Division 1, while 5.2% passed in Division 2. The percentage of candidates who did not make it or got grade 9 was 16.7%. The performance of special needs candidates was also highlighted, with many performing well in Division 3 and Division 4.
Minister Museveni encouraged learners who did not perform well to explore other opportunities for progression in education and training through the vocational pathway. “You do not have to drop out of formal education at all, you can try again through this other pathway,” she said.
Candidates can access their results online through the UNEB eReg Portal or by sending their index number to 6600 via SMS.
