KAMPALA – Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has announced the project theme for Senior Three students in 2025, focusing on “Utilization of Available Resources for Community Development”. This theme is designed to guide learners in developing integrated projects for their end-of-cycle certification.
According to Jennifer Kalule-Musamba, UNEB Spokesperson, the project theme is part of the New Lower Secondary Curriculum (NLSC)/Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) assessment framework. “The theme for 2025 is Utilization of Available Resources for Community Development,” she stated.
Kalule-Musamba emphasized that project work is a crucial component of the CBC assessment framework. “For UCE certification, learners without scores for project work do NOT qualify for a certificate,” she noted. The project work is assessed at school, and the achievement level is presented as a standalone on the certificate.
The project theme for 2025 is designed to assess learners’ creative competency in dealing with real-life situations. “The achievement level on the project reveals a learner’s ability to think critically and creatively in addressing community development challenges,” Kalule-Musamba explained.
The NLSC/CBC requires learners to acquire project skills throughout their four-year lower secondary cycle. Learners undertake simple routine projects in Senior One and Two, which may be done in group settings or individually. From Senior Three to Senior Four, learners carry out one integrated project guided by a theme provided by UNEB.
Last year’s theme for Senior Four candidates was “Skills and Innovation for Sustainable Living”. The Directorate of Examinations has been commended for providing a timely and relevant theme that aligns with the country’s development goals.
As learners embark on their projects, UNEB encourages them to think creatively and develop innovative solutions to community development challenges. The project theme is designed to inspire learners to become active participants in their communities, utilizing available resources to drive positive change.
