The Kaabong District Woman MP seat fell vacant after the incumbent, Ms Rose Lilly Akello, decided to represent the newly created Karenga District.
As a result, the ruling party is set to hold primaries on August 26, with nominations set to be held on August 15 and August 16 at the Kaabong district headquarters. It will also hold primaries for lower local government council positions in Kaabong and Hoima.
“For purposes of clarity, any person who wishes to contest for the Woman MP position must meet the following requirements: must be a Ugandan female, must be at least 18 years and above, must be a member of the NRM, must be a resident in the district, must have his/her ‘’O’’ and ‘’A’’ level certificates or their equivalent verified/certified by UNEB/UNCHE and must not be employed in an organization wholly owned by government,” the NRM EC statement issued by Dr Tanga Odoi on Tuesday reads in part.
“She must not be a member of the armed forces such as the army, police and prisons, must be a registered voter by the National Electoral Commission and must not be a Cultural leader,” it adds.

“These positions are 75 (in Hoima) and 25 (in Kaabong). Expression of interest and picking of Nomination Forms for these positions is currently ongoing at our district offices in the two districts. No academic qualifications are required,” Dr Odoi said.
“Please take note that campaigns shall strictly be joint as provided for in the NRM Constitution. The Commission also wishes to warn all aspiring candidates and other interested parties to refrain engaging in any form of campaigns until the gazette time as laid out in the just-announced NRM EC roadmap,” he adds.
